Bible Verses About Forgiveness
Reflection
Forgiveness sits at the center of the gospel. We need it from God, and we are called to extend it to others—not because the wound was small, but because mercy has been large toward us.
The Bible never treats forgiveness as denial. It names sin as real and costly. Yet from Joseph weeping with his brothers, to David’s psalms of confession, to Jesus on the cross, Scripture tells a story of release: debts canceled, enemies reconciled, consciences washed clean. Jesus teaches us to pray for daily forgiveness and to forgive as we have been forgiven. Paul urges the church to put away bitterness and put on kindness, as God in Christ forgave us.
These verses speak both to the person who feels unforgivable and to the person who cannot yet let go. Start where you are. Ask for grace to receive mercy and grace to offer it. Forgiveness is often a journey more than a moment—but every step is walked with the Savior who first forgave you.
