Bible Verses About Grief
Reflection
Grief is the price of love in a fallen world. Scripture does not rush it or scold it. Jesus weeps at a tomb. David pours out lament. Jeremiah writes songs of loss. The Bible makes room for tears.
God’s people are not asked to pretend. They are invited to grieve with hope—hope that death does not get the last word, that the risen Christ will return, that every tear will be wiped away. Comfort often comes first as presence: the God who is near to the brokenhearted, the church that mourns with those who mourn, the Spirit who helps us in our weakness when we cannot find words.
These verses are companions for funerals and anniversaries, for empty chairs and quiet houses. Let them hold you. You do not have to be “strong” on a schedule. Bring your sorrow to the Man of Sorrows who knows it from the inside. In Him, grief is real—and so is resurrection morning.
