Bible Verses About Joy

33 passages BSB

Reflection

Joy in Scripture is deeper than a mood. It is gladness rooted in God Himself—possible even when circumstances are heavy, because its source is not the weather of life but the presence of the Lord.

The Psalms overflow with joy as worship. Jesus speaks of His joy remaining in His disciples. Paul writes of rejoicing from prison. Nehemiah tells a weary people that the joy of the Lord is their strength. This is not fake cheerfulness. Biblical joy can coexist with tears; it simply refuses to let sorrow have the last word. It celebrates salvation, creation, community, and the unshakable kingdom that is coming.

These verses are invitations to lift your eyes. Read them when celebration comes easily and when it does not. Ask the Spirit to restore the joy of your salvation—not as a temporary high, but as a steady undercurrent of hope. Joy is one of the ways the church shows the world that Christ is enough.
